This policy explains how the MMD Exams desktop application handles information.
Its Microsoft Store publisher is 19 Lat. Mobile applications and websites may have
separate privacy notices.
Disclaimer
The application is not affiliated with or endorsed by India’s Government, Directorate General
of Shipping, or Marine Mercantile Department. It functions as an independently developed
educational tool for seafarers preparing for MMD exams, sourcing government information from
publicly available resources.
Information Collection and Use
Account and activity: We use your email address to send temporary sign-in
codes and link the desktop app to your MMD Exams account. The service provides your
account ID, profile details and Pro access status. Bookmarks, ratings and reading
history are linked to your account so they can be synchronised.
Computer and connection information: The app generates a random installation
identifier and sends it, your computer name, operating system and app version to the
MMD Exams service for desktop session management. Network requests also reveal your
IP address to the receiving service. Desktop sessions are managed separately from
iOS and Android sessions.
Study-note contributions: If you upload notes, we receive the selected
file, its submission details and any uploader name you choose to provide. Approved
contributions may be shared in the study catalogue. Do not upload confidential
personal information or materials you do not have permission to share.
The desktop app does not request access to precise GPS location, your microphone
or camera. Services may estimate a general region from your IP address.
Reviewer access: App-store reviewers may sign in using dedicated credentials supplied by MMD Exams. The password is sent over HTTPS for verification against a server-side hash. The desktop app does not save the reviewer password or include it in analytics; it stores the resulting session using the same protection as regular sign-ins.
How Information Is Used
We use information to verify sign-in and existing Pro access, manage desktop sessions,
provide protected study materials, synchronise study activity, review contributions,
respond to support requests and diagnose reliability issues. The desktop app does
not sell subscriptions; the backend checks access associated with your existing account.
Analytics and Service Providers
The desktop app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to measure app opens, screen visits,
sign-in and sign-out events, PDF opens, note submissions and technical error categories.
Event fields include desktop version, operating system and, where relevant, study-book
identifiers. Our event code excludes email addresses, names, sign-in codes, session
tokens, PDF contents, document titles, download URLs and raw error messages or stack traces.
Google’s Analytics SDK may use local identifiers or cookies and process connection
and device information. Advertising personalisation signals are disabled in the
desktop configuration. See
Google’s privacy policy and
Firebase’s privacy information.
The desktop app does not use AdMob, OneSignal or the native Firebase Crashlytics SDK.
MMD Exams hosting and email delivery services process information needed to operate
the service. Existing mobile purchases may be verified by the backend using purchase
providers such as RevenueCat; the desktop app does not contain a RevenueCat purchase SDK.
Information may also be disclosed where required by law or needed to investigate abuse
or protect the service and its users.
Local Storage and Protected Study Files
The app saves sign-in session state and its installation identifier in your computer’s
application-data storage. Study PDFs are cached in a device-bound encrypted format and
viewed inside the app subject to account and access checks. This protection does not
mean that every other item of local app data is encrypted.
You can sign out to remove the active desktop session from the app, and use Downloads
to remove individual cached study files or clear the encrypted cache. Signing out
does not itself delete every cached file or your server-side account history. Uninstalling
stops activity from that installed app; it does not delete information already held
by the service.
Data Retention Policy
Account and study activity information is retained to provide the service and may
remain after you stop using the desktop app. Retention can also depend on security,
support and legal requirements. To request access, correction or deletion, contact
mmdexam@outlook.com or use the
account deletion request page.
Deletion requests may require verification that you control the account.
Children’s Privacy
The service is intended for seafarers preparing for professional examinations, and
is not intended for children under thirteen. If you believe a child under thirteen
has provided personal information, contact mmdexam@outlook.com so we can investigate
and address the request.
Security
The app uses HTTPS for service requests and encrypts cached study PDFs. These safeguards
reduce risk, but no internet transmission or computer storage method guarantees absolute
security. Keep your computer account and email inbox secure; access to your inbox can
allow someone to obtain a sign-in code.
Policy Changes
Changes to this desktop policy will be included with an updated date. Review the
policy when updating the app.
